Opening of the logistics centre

True to the motto „standing still is a step backwards “, WEGMANN automotive is constantly developing. After approximately 1,5 years of construction works, the first processes have been running since the beginning of the year in the newly built logistic center in the east industrial area (Schleehofstr. 1, Veitshoechheim). During the summer party on July 15, 2022 with employees and guests from politics, the new logistic center was officially opened by the managing directors Felix Bode and Markus Vogler as well as by the Major from Veitshoechheim Jürgen Goetz.

The construction of the logistic center began with the groundbreaking ceremony in August 2020. A lot has happened since then: the modern logistic building, including an office annex, now stands on a site area of more than 20.000 m². The logistic site covers an area of 4.300 m². It has been created space on a further 2.700 m² for an automatic high-bay warehouse with a storage capacity of around 13.300 pallet spaces. By means of automation, innovative technologies allow daily logistical processes to be accelerated and further advanced.

Our highlights in the new logistic center are order picking towers with over 10.000 storage locations for small load carriers, which make manual order picking of small parts much easier. Two driverless transport systems support the almost complete automation of storage processes, internal transport and shipping processes. Another highlight of this project is the use of the SAP EWM warehouse management system on the new SAP S/4 technology.

The new logistic center offers the opportunity to provide customers with a fast shipping and to ensure an optimal availability of goods. Both internal and external receipt of goods, warehousing, order picking and shipping are handled at the most modern level. Summing up, Michael Ühlein SCM Director Europe explained, „with our new logistic center we are centralizing our inventory and handling process at a single location, and we are noticeably faster in order processing for our customers. The high level of automation on the hardware and software side also significantly increases the delivery quality of customer orders. “

Our partner for the intralogistics concept is Jungheinrich Logistiksysteme GmbH, based in Hamburg. Salt Solutions Part of Accenture from Wuerzburg participated in the Warehouse Management System area. The client of the new logistics building was the engineering office Franz Nickel from Kolitzheim.
